Wisconsin Knocks Sioux Lookout From League’s Top Spot

Spooner, WI – The Wisconsin Lumberjacks rallied on Saturday night to defeat the Sioux Lookout Bombers by a score of 6-4. 

It looked as though Sioux Lookout may run away with it early as they scored 2 goals in the 1st 3 minutes of the game. Owen Cotter scored 1 minute and 11 seconds in assisted by Cobe Delany. The follow up goal was scored by Owen Riffel on the power play with helpers going to Kaden Veller and Blake Burke. The game would continue with the Bombers holding a 2-0 for the majority of the 1st period until Kaden Postal pulled one back for Wisconsin, as he scored with less than 2 minutes remaining. The Postal goal was assisted by Nolan Fowler and Ryan Kayser. 

The game would head into the 2nd period with Sioux Lookout holding on to a 2-1 lead. That scoreline would hold for over 13 minutes until Lumberjacks’ captain evened the game at 2. Sioux Lookout was quick to regain the lead scoring with a goal from defenseman Nolan Palmer just 3 minutes later on the power play.

In the 3rd period Wisconsin would grab control of the game with 3 straight goals. The equalizer was contributed by Simon Davidson 7 minutes into the frame. The go-ahead goal was a one time blast courtesy of Connor Cocoran. And the 5th goal came from the stick of rookie Nolan Fowler to make it 5-3 in favor of Wisconsin. The Bombers tried to mount a comeback and were able to bring it back to a 1 goal game with a score from Owen Cotter with just over 2 minutes left. Sioux Lookout would get a couple opportunities with the goalie pulled but the last goal went to Wisconsin with a Nolan Fowler empty netter.

William Forrester had a great game in goal making 45 saves in a winning effort. Matthew Spencer-Dahl stopped 31 of 36 and picked up the loss.
