Kam River Dominant Start to 2024

The Fighting Walleye scored early and often in route to an 8-2 victory over the Wisconsin Lumberjacks on Friday night.

It was just over one minute into the game before the Fighting Walleye opened the scoring as Ryan Doucette found the back of the net on just the 2nd shot of the game. He was assisted by linemates Jeremy Dunmore and Riley Borody. The Fighting Walleye continued into the 1st period controlling play and grabbed a commanding 3-0 lead before the 10-minute mark with 2 more tallies. Rookie Carter Poddubny scored a few minutes later and Dunmore scored his 1st of the game at 9 minutes and 32 seconds. The Lumberjacks found even footing in the back half of the frame with the 2 teams trading goals late one from Matteo Salvatore the other Colin Baker to make it 4-1 at the 1st break.

The Fighting Walleye started the 2nd period much like the 1st scoring early on thanks to Max Wright. The physicality picked up after a 1st period without penalties, 6 minutes in a scrum behind the Wisconsin net led to Riley Borody, Jeremy Dunmore, and Connor Corcoran all being assessed 2 and 10’s for roughing. As the period continued the Fighting Walleye would add 2 more to their lead with goals by Caleb Labelle and Carter Nailen.

Things evened up in the 3rd period as the Lumberjacks clawed one back courtesy of Marshall Thomas. Unfortunately, Kam River would almost immediately reclaim their 6 goals lead as Max Wright scored his 2nd of the night to make it 8-2. Ashton Sadauskas got the win in goal for the Fighting Walleye stopping 27 of 29. Riley Burnett went the distance for the Lumberjacks making 39 saves.
