SIJHL January Players of the Month

Forward of the Month – Jeremy Dunmore, Kam River Fighting Walleye

The Fighting Walleye were 6-2 in the month of January and Dunmore played a big part in his team’s success. In 8 games Dunmore was able to amass 14 points with 4 goals and 10 assists. To date Dunmore is on a 10 game scoring streak including every game played in the month of January. The Fighting Walleye forward also recorded multiple points in 5 of his 8 games. Dunmore paces the attack for the best team in the league and won Forward of the Month in January.

Defencemen of the Month – Jack Cook, Kam River Fighting Walleye

What more can be said about Cook that wasn’t brought up in this same article last month? Cook earned his 2nd straight Player of the Month in January. The blue liner was a stable presence on the back end while quarterbacking the attack and leading the powerplay. Cook was right there with Dunmore having 13 points over an 8 game period. Those points consisted of 7 goals, 4 of the coming on the man advantage, and 6 assists. The Kam River defenceman also logged 5 multiple point games in the month. Cook’s scoring production and D-zone play helped him win Defencemen of the Month for January.

Goalie of the Month – Jake Manners, Sioux Lookout Bombers

Manners had his best month by far between the pipes for the Bombers. The netminder was 4-1-1 in 6 games played. Manners saved close to 19 out of every 20 shots as he had a save percentage of .949. Manners’ goals against average was 2.17 as he never saw less than 35 shots in a single game. The Sioux Lookout goaltender also posted 2 shutouts stopping 40 shots against Thunder Bay, and 49 against Red Lake. Manners separated himself from all other goaltenders and won Goalie of the month in January.

Rookie of the Month – Aiden Corbett, Red Lake Miners

Aiden Corbett joins Jack Cook as the 2nd player to earn his 2nd monthly honors this season. Corbett was Rookie of the Month in November and had an impressive January. The Red Lake Miners continue to showcase their young talent as the club has won 3 of 4 monthly honors for rookies this season. Corbett matched Forward of the Month Jeremy Dunmore in points with 14 but did it in 12 games. 6 goals and 8 assists was how the ‘04 got to the 14 point mark. Corbett did it all in 5 on 5 action, his highlight being a hat trick against the Fort Frances Lakers and a game winner against the Wisconsin Lumberjacks. Corbett’s production helped keep Red Lake afloat in a difficult month with a lot of games, keeping his team’s record at an even 6-6. The Red Lake forward had a big impact all month long leading to his 2nd Rookie of the Month this time in January.
