SIJHL December Players of the Month

By Tanner Schafer

Forward of the Month – Aiden Corbett, Red Lake Miners

December didn’t have many games due to the holidays, but that didn’t stop Corbett from filling up the stat sheet. The Red Lake forward averaged over 2 points per game scoring 10 goals and 7 assists in 7 games. Aiden had multiple 2 goal games and led his team to a perfect month in December as Red Lake was 7-0 in those 7 games. A prolific streak of games has secured Corbett the Forward of the Month award.

Honorable Mention – Dillon Phillips, Wisconsin Lumberjacks; McLaren Paulsen, Dryden GM Ice Dogs

November Winner – Edison Weeks, Thunder Bay North Stars

October Winner – Max Roby, Dryden GM Ice Dogs

Defencemen of the Month – Dayvan Bull, Sioux Lookout Bombers

Not much can be written about Bull that wasn’t said last month when he also won the award. Bull is the first player this season to go back to back winning an award as he is once again the Defencemen of the Month. Also Sioux Lookout has continued their stranglehold on the award having won all 3 to this point. Like Corbett and Red Lake, Bull and the Bombers were undefeated in the month of December winning all 5 games. Dayvan had 3 goals and 5 assists in that span and played all around great hockey. He has separated himself from the pack and looks to be the favorite for Defencemen of the Year having picked up 2 of the 3 monthly awards to this point.

Honorable Mention -Braden Swampy, Kenora Islanders; Gabe Tanton, Red Laker Miners

November Winner – Dayvan Bull, Sioux Lookout Bombers

October Winner – Nolan Palmer, Sioux Lookout Bombers

Goalie of the Month – Ashton Sadauskas, Kam River Fighting Walleye

A lot of team success comes down to the player between the pipes. That rang true for Kam River in December as they were 4-0 when Sadauskas was in goal and 0-1-1 when he wasn’t. Aside from posting a perfect record, the netminder posted a stellar 1.25 GAA and .955 Save % only playing against teams in the top 5 of the league. Sadauskas was locked in and that led to his winning the monthly award.

Honorable Mention – Ethan Neitsch, Red Lake Miners; Riley Burnett, Wisconsin Lumberjacks

November Winner – Matthew Spencer-Dahl, Sioux Lookout Bombers

October Winner – Keenan Marks, Thunder Bay North Stars

Rookie of the Month – Nolan Fowler, Wisconsin Lumberjacks

Fowler was phenomenal in limited action. After suffering a concussion that kept him out of his team’s only 2 losses in the month the young forward from Nova Scotia went on a tear. In 4 games he scored 6 goals and picked up 2 assists. His performance was highlighted by a 4 goal game against the Kenora Islanders on December 8th. The Lumberjacks at points this season have struggled to put pucks in the net but Fowler helped the team reel off 4 straight wins to end the month and solidify their hold on 6th place.

Honorable Mention – Carter Poddubny, Kam River Fighting Walleye; Noah Tenney, Red Lake Miners

November Winner – Easton Mikus, Thunder Bay North Stars

October Winner – Carter Poddubny, Kam River Fighting Walleye
