Spooner, Wisconsin (April 25th, 2019) – The Wisconsin Lumberjacks are pleased to announce the signing of Braden LaPorte for the 2019-2020 season.
LaPorte — a 20 year old 5’10” defensemen is a 2017 product of Superior High School — marks a stay at home, workhorse, defensive recruitment for The Lumberjacks 2019-2020 Inaugural season. The team is pleased to secure a veteran product out of an elite local area program, well in advance of the upcoming season.
Nate Haskins, The Wisconsin Lumberjacks Director of Scouting, had this comment when asked about the signing of LaPorte, “Braden is a guy that we keyed in on when we started scouting. He was All-State his senior year and captained his team to a Wisconsin State Championship. He played with Team Wisconsin for two seasons and had a solid campaign last year at the tier III level with the Rum River Mallards. He’s ready to make the jump to the Canadian Tier II CJHL.”
“With the leadership, experience and work ethic that Braden brings to the club, we couldn’t be happier with this local area signing,” added Haskins.
Braden had an extremely positive visit to Lumberjacks’ home arena, The Spooner Civic Center, which helped make his decision. “Getting down to Spooner was an awesome experience, seeing the amazing facilities first hand, as well as getting a feel for the town. Playing in that building in front of what I’m sure will be the best fans and game day in the SIJHL will give an extra drive and excitement in coming to the barn every day. The opportunity as a 20 year old to come to Spooner with the Lumberjacks and what the staff and ownership are doing here is something that really made my decision easy,” said LaPorte.
The Wisconsin Lumberjacks organization would like to welcome Braden and his family to our team and are excited to see him wear a Lumberjacks sweater next fall.
