Red Lake Secures Perfect Week with Win Over Wisconsin

By Tanner Schafer

Spooner, WI -The Miners were a little slow to start their 4th game of the week, but outstanding goaltending kept them in the game until they woke up and claimed a 3-1 win over the Lumberjacks.

It was a rather uneventful first period as no penalties were called on either side. Wisconsin would find their way onto the scoreboard scoring a goal with just under 8 minutes remaining. Connor Hacker would score the goal, his 6th of the season, assists were credited to Brandon McDonald and Caden Sutter.

For as little happened in the 1st the 2nd period had plenty of action. Things were started off by Aiden Corbett who scored the Miners first goal 5 minutes into the period. After a bad Wisconsin turnover Jacob Lamoureux carried the puck into the zone and found the stick of Corbett for the lone assist on the goal. Corbett would continue his recent hot streak even further as he scored the game winner later in the period. The goals were his 13th and 14th of the campaign, the lone assist this time going to Quintyn Sidaway. The last 5 minutes of the period saw 28 of the game’s 30 total penalty minutes. Wisconsin’s new pick up Simon Davidson was given a misconduct, Dylan Joupppi and Tootoo Fotheringham were both shown the door for fighting.

The 3rd period was much like the 1st, no penalties and only 1 goal scored. With just under 5 minutes remaining Lamoureux found the twine from a bad angle extending the Miners lead to 3-1 and giving Lamoureux his 23rd goal of the season. Aiden Corbett would pick up an assist on the goals giving him a 3-point evening.

Jack Osmond led the way to victory for Red Lake saving 37 of 38 shots. Kyler Lowden stopped 22 shots in a losing effort. Connor Hacker’s lone goal was enough for 3rd star of the game, Jack Osmond was the 2nd star, and Aiden Corbett was the game’s 1st star with 2 goals and an assist. Corbett scored 9 points in 4 games for the Miners as they got all 8 possible points on the week and sit in 3rd place. The Lumberjacks are in 6th heading into the new week. Wisconsin will host Thunder Bay on Wednesday in their next game while Red Lake will host Sioux Lookout on Friday.
