Spooner, WI- The Wisconsin Lumberjacks are excited to announce the signing of 1999-born forward Matt Turnbull to the team for the upcoming 2019-2020 SIJHL season. Turnbull joins the Lumberjacks from the Minnesota Iron Rangers hockey program.

Turnbull, from Morrisburg, Ontario, Canada comes to the Lumberjacks as a skilled veteran with tangible Canadian Tier II Junior A experience.

Matt had this to say about his signing with the Lumberjacks, “I wasn’t sure what was next for me in terms of where I would decide to play out my last year of juniors. I spent some time skating and working out in Melville, after the end of our season.  I returned home to Morrisburg and it’s been a bit of a waiting game to see how things panned out. This was an opportunity that just simply made sense.”

Turnbull went on to add, “I’m extremely excited to join the Lumberjacks. I know what I bring to the Club and the staff has made it clear what my role is going to be, coming in as a 20 year old. The coaching and facilities that the Lumberjacks have are what I believe to be second to none. I haven’t been this excited and 100% all in on a season in my career. I can’t wait to get to Spooner and get to work.”

Head Coach and General Manager, Doug Lein had this response when asked about the Turnbull signing, “This is a steal for us. Definitely a guy that comes in right away with leadership and experience in this league.”

Lein added, “As the Iron Rangers players just became available about an hour ago, we had to scramble. We knew we liked who Matt is as a young man and what he brings to the table as a player. He was a guy that we have been camped out on and were hoping we could sign, we just had to bide our time. He is a guy we expect to come in and step up in a big way. Definitely a high value guy who is ready for a breakout season.”
