Lumberjack Split Weekend Series with 13-3 Win Over Lakers

Fort Frances, ON – Wisconsin was able to avenge a shootout loss from a night before with a dominant 13-3 victory over Fort Frances on Saturday night. 

Despite 16 goals being scored in the game the 2 teams were only able to manage 1 in the 1st period. 5 minutes into the frame Ryder McMillen scored his 21st of the year, an unassisted goal giving Wisconsin a 1-0 lead. The rest of the period would see 4 minor penalties assessed with neither team being able to capitalize. 

Jack Wood looked to make it a game early in the 2nd period as he scored the equalizer also an unassisted goal. From there it was all Lumberjacks as they scored 6 goals in both periods. McMillen would again tally an unassisted goal, his 2nd of the game. Shane Cassin would score his 3rd goal of the season with an assist going to Caden Sutter. Cooper McClure would score the 4th goal unassisted making 3 of the 4 Wisconsin goals unassisted, a rarity for the team. Zach Carson would score the 5th goal with Dillon Phillips getting the 6th and 7th in for the Lumberjacks. Before Phillips 2nd tally Brady Krentz would sneak in a goal and the game would go to the 3rd with a 7-2 scoreline favoring the Lumberjacks. 

 In the 3rd Wisconsin would get goals from 6 different players to extend the lead to 13-2. Player’s scoring were McMillen, Dylan Olsen, Phillips, Connor McClure, Zach Johnson, and Brandon McDonald. Josh Greene would net a consolation goal for the Lakers making the final score 13-3. 

Kyler Lowden stopped 31 of 34 in a winning effort. Ryan Tanner made 52 saves and picked up the loss. SIJHL leading scorer Ryder McMillen was the 1st star of the game with a hat trick. Dillon Phillips also had a hat trick as well as an assist for 2nd star of the game. Jack Wood scored a goal and secured 3rd star of the game.
