DEFENSEMAN JACK JONES SIGNS WITH THE LUMBERJACKS

Spooner, Wisconsin  – The Wisconsin Lumberjacks are pleased to announce that 2001-born defenseman Jack Jones has committed to the team for the upcoming 2019-20 SIJHL season.

Jones comes to Spooner from the Waconia, MN High School. Jones is the sixth player to join the team after playing in the Minnesota State High School League.

Originally from Waconia, MN, Jones came up through the Waconia Youth Hockey program, graduating in 2019 as a three year varsity letter winner.

Jones making the move to the CJHL will be a difficult one, but feels playing in the Minnesota State High School Hockey League has prepared him well for this opportunity.

“Playing for the Lumberjacks couldn’t be more of the home I was looking for. I think the staff has a great handle on what it takes to get to the next level and a strong grasp on player development,” Jones described. “Last season was a great year for my personal development and maturity.

“The Lumberjacks showed an interest in me back in the spring. They told me about the direction of the program, and it was really something that my family and I have bought in to. It’s close to home, so it’s definitely the right fit for me.”

The Jones signing is the club’s 13th announcement of the inaugural season roster build. The Lumberjacks team is shaping up to be very young, fast, and skilled – all things that excite the newest blue liner.

Head Coach Doug Lein had this to say when commenting on the Jones signing, “Jack is a stay at home player that you can build a solid attack from. He takes care of business and is a coachable player with what we feel brings a solid skill set and room for strong personal development to our hockey club. We couldn’t happier to add a guy like Jack to our roster.”

“Having a new team is nice, it creates a great opportunity for me to continue developing my game.  I’m excited to get to Spooner and get to work. I’m looking forward to getting settled in the locker room with the guys and getting involved in the community. I think with what the staff has done to put this team together, we should have a great year. Spooner deserves a hardworking team and that’s what we intend to deliver.”

The next 28 days of the off-season is the only thing that stands in the way of him beginning his first SIJHL season. He’s anxious to get things going, but plans on putting in a lot of work between now and the beginning of training camp August 24th.

Jones added, “I’m going to enjoy the last few weeks, but I’m eager to improve my skills ahead of training camp. I think in order to make the jump to the CJHL I need to work on becoming stronger, and faster, like any new player coming into the league – but I’m extremely excited to get the season going.”
